WHAT WE DO |
![]() The Heavy Equipment and Transportation Units utilize heavy fire fighting equipment to respond to emergency incidents. These incidents include brush fires, structure fires, hazard materials incidents, earthquakes and floods. Dozer teams are dispatched to incidents where heavy fire fighting equipment can be most effective.
When the bell goes off, the Dozer Team which consists of a Fire Fighting Construction Equipment Operator (FFCEO), a Transportation Truck Driver (TTD) and a Fire Suppression Aid (FSA), respond from assigned locations to the emergency incident. On a brush fire, the incident commander assigns the fire dozer to begin constructing a line (removing fuel from the perimeter of the fire). This is accomplished by the FFCEO aided by the FSA while the TTD relocates the transport and dozer tender to a safe location. When the active fire has been suppressed, the fire dozer goes over the line constructed and addresses any environmental issues. When all assignments have been completed, the incident commander releases the dozer team back to quarters.
