Local Firefighters Support East Los Angeles Bike Race

top-story

It was a hot and sunny day when personnel from Fire Stations 1 and 3 joined Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina and families from throughout the East Los Angeles community for the inaugural "East L.A. Bicycle Ride and Taste of East L.A." on September 8. Check-in started at 8:30 a.m. – and bike riding began at 10 a.m. Fire Station 1 personnel led the bike race with sirens. The race's two routes included a 1.8-mile "family ride" and a 4.3-mile ride for the general public.

Members of the Los Angeles Bicycle Coalition provided 30 "bike marshals" to shadow riders and help participants through street intersections. Once the ride concluded, participants sampled the magnificent culinary delights the Eastside had to offer at the 4th Annual Taste of East L.A. This festival of food showcased samples from 20 of East L.A.'s best restaurants. Kids enjoyed face painting and jumpers while live bands, mariachis and disc jockeys provided entertainment for the entire family.
