PUBLIC SAFETY & FILM UNIT

The Public Safety & Film Unit, also known as the PSFU, serves the filming and special events industry throughout the County of Los Angeles. The PSFU’s primary function is to review applications for filming permits, issue permits for filming, public assemblies, events requiring Fire Safety Officers, Fire Safety Advisors, and to field inspect film shoot locations for safety and compliance with code and County recommendations.

Each year we issues:

  • Filming Permits 2672
  • Revisions to Permits 2393
  • Special Effects Permits 1160
  • Still Photography Permits 780

The PSFU is also responsible for the administration and coordination of the assignment of Fire Safety Officers (FSO) and Fire Safety Advisors (FSA) to filming locations and special events that occur within the 58 cities and unincorporated jurisdictional areas of the County of Los Angeles Fire Department. All Captains and Inspectors in the Fire Prevention Division are qualified FSO’s and make up the core of FSO’s assigned to events.
