Malbu Fire June 29, 2017

LACoFD Combats Weeks of Unrelenting Fires

Los Angeles County firefighters began combating the 2017 fire season in full-force at Castaic Lake on Saturday, June 17, 2017. The fire burned 800 acres and took several days to ensure complete containment. With only a brief reprieve, fires seemed to flare up in rapid succession beginning on Sunday, June 25 in Santa Clarita, then on Thursday, June 29 in Malibu and Calabasas.

Topanga Incident

Current Containment:  100%

At 3:09 p.m., on Thursday, June 29, County firefighters responded to a brush fire at South Topanga Boulevard and West Pacific Coast Highway in the City of Malibu. We are in unified command with the Los Angeles Fire Department.  195 personnel are assigned to this ongoing incident which is burning medium to heavy fuel.

Stokes Incident

At 2:57 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, County firefighters responded to a brush fire burning in a State Responsibility Area, at Mulholland Highway and Malibu Canyon Road in the City of Calabasas.  228 personnel are assigned to this ongoing incident.  Forward progress has been stopped on the brush fire.

Placerita Fire Update

On Sunday, June 25, 2017, at 12:47 p.m., County firefighters responded to a report of a traffic collision with fire on Highway 14 at Placerita Canyon Road in the City of Santa Clarita. Upon arrival, firefighters found a single vehicle that had crashed into a tree, igniting a one-quarter acre brush fire burning in light to medium brush.

Board Watch: Mobile Stroke Unit, Ambulance Agreements, SCBAs and More

At its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved an amendment related to County ambulance contracts; amended agreements with emergency ambulance transportation services; approved two Fire Department-related contracts; adopted an ordinance amending County salaries and employee classifications; and issued a proclamation.
