The Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD), International Association of Firefighters Local 1014, and Los Angeles County Firefighters Memorial Committee collectively hosted the annual 2018 Firefighters’ Memorial Ceremony. Widows and family members attended the ceremony held at the Department’s headquarters on Saturday, April 21.
Fire Chief Daryl Osby participated in the laying of a memorial wreath with Local 1014 President, Dave Gillotte, and the Associations of Chiefs President, Assistant Fire Chief Pat Errett.
The annual Firefighters’ Memorial Ceremony is held in front of the memorial wall and honors fallen firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty, dating back to 1929. This year, no new names were added to the memorial wall.
In 1988, the widows in the Family Support Group started the memorial wall project to honor their spouses. They helped to establish the nonprofit Los Angeles County Firefighters Memorial Committee and have paid tribute to the memory of fallen firefighters every year through the Firefighters Memorial Ceremony.
