On Thursday, August 30, the Los Angeles County Fire County Fire Department remembered two fallen firefighters – Fire Captain Ted Hall and Fire Fighter Specialist (FFS) Arnie Quinones – on the nine-year anniversary of the Station Fire that swept over Camp 16 on Mt. Gleason in 2009. They were proud, cherished family men, and courageous firefighters who gave their lives bravely battling an intense fire that was fueled by strong, erratic winds and prolonged drought.
Los Angeles County Fire Department officially promoted Antonio S. Ramirez to the position of Assistant Fire Chief along with Dennis B. Breshears, Eleni Pappas, and Thomas J. Sullivan on Thursday, August 16, 2018. In his new role, he will oversee Division IX, which includes the cities of Bell, Bell Gardens, Commerce, El Monte, Rosemead, and South El Monte.

The Los Angeles County Surf Lifesaving Association (LACoSLA) competed against over 30 teams and 400 professional lifeguards at the United States Lifesaving Association National Championship in Virginia Beach, Virginia, from August 9-11, 2018, and brought home bragging rights as the best and the fastest lifeguarding pros around.
On August 16, 2018, Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) officially promoted Dennis B. Breshears, Eleni Pappas, Antonio S. Ramirez, and Thomas J. Sullivan to the position of Assistant Fire Chief. The promotion of Pappas will go down in LACoFD history, as she is now the first female ever to achieve this rank in the Department.
