The Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) was recently awarded a $168,000 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) award for the purchase of three new Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Community Paramedic Units (CPUs).
The Department plans to purchase three Chevrolet Tahoe SUVs for low-acuity medical calls, which will free up resources for more critical incidents. Each vehicle will be converted by the Department’s Fleet Services Division, adding lights, sirens, a radio, refrigerator and storage space.
The AFG promotes the safety of the public and firefighters by providing direct financial assistance for critically needed resources. The formal process to have the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors approve the acceptance of the funds is planned for October 2017. The anticipated service date is July 2018.
