At the Tuesday, February 5, 2019, Board of Supervisors meeting, the Board voted to accept a grant award for $3,000,000 from the California Department of Forest and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE). The funding is part of CAL FIRE’s Forest Health California Climate Investments Grant Program for the Goldspotted Oak Borer Monitoring and Mitigation Program.
The project’s objective is to remove 1,500 dead or dying insect-infected oak trees near structures in the Green Valley State Responsibility Area. Removing the insect-infested trees will reduce the risk of spreading the infestation, lessen the insect population and address any existing fire hazards for nearby residents.
Green Valley is a community of single family homes, farms and businesses within State Responsibility Area and a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone.
