The Los Angeles County Fire Department’s 61st Fire Explorer Academy Family Day was held on May 12, 2018, at the Del Valle Regional Training Facility in Castaic.

Acting Assistant Fire Chief Henry Rodriguez and Battalion Chief Francisco Infante gave a warm welcome to the Explorers, their parents, family and friends. Chief Rodriguez offered words of encouragement and support to the young men and women as they prepared to begin the Explorer Academy and become Certified Explorers.

There are 70 Explorers expected to participate in the six-weekend academy from May 19 to June 24.  The Explorer Academy gives young adults the opportunity to become Certified Explorers, where they will learn about the fire service and volunteer at a fire station. They receive hands-on training, experience a full 24-hour shift at a fire station, and go on ride-alongs on a fire engine during emergency calls.
