The Los Angeles County Fire Department observed the National Fire Prevention Association’s Fire Prevention Week (FPW) from October 7-13, 2018. This year’s FPW slogan, “Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware. Fire can happen anywhere,” strives to educate people about fire with three simple, yet effective, fire safety tips:
• Look. Look for places fire could start.
• Listen. Listen for the sound of the smoke alarm.
• Learn. Learn two ways out of every room.
Last week, the Board of Supervisors and the Department proclaimed October as “Fire Prevention Month.”
FPW is observed each year during the week of October 9, in remembrance of the Great Chicago Fire on October 8, 1871. It killed more than 250 people and burned more than 2,000 acres of land.
