Firefighters from the Los Angeles County Fire Department competed in the CMC GRIMP North America competition which took place on the Battleship USS Iowa in San Pedro from March 28-30, 2019.
The competition is filled with rescue skills challenges against teams from the United States and all over the world, including Canada, Germany and Taiwan. Usually held in Belgium, this was the first time the competition has taken place in North America.
The Department’s team participated in the technical (rope) rescue challenge. While the team did not place this year, members learned lessons from other rescue teams and are interested in competing in future competitions.
CMC produces rescue equipment and also provides instruction on urban search and rescue techniques.
