On Friday, Oct. 23, the Health Hazardous Materials Division (HHMD) hosted a group of environmental managers who traveled from Abu Dhabi to the U.S. to learn about how the local governments administer environmental programs.
HHMD gave presentations on the various programs and led discussions about hazardous materials management. The topics included inspections, enforcement, coordination between agencies, interaction with stakeholders and legal requirements placed on businesses and facilities. HHMD also gave a “show and tell” on emergency response equipment and demonstrated the software tools that are used to administer and track the programs.
The Abu Dhabi managers were particularly interested in looking at HHMD’s “mature” program and comparing it to newer programs globally.
The visitors were very appreciative of the information HHMD presented and will be implementing some of the Department’s administrative procedures.
