What is a hazardous waste?
According to the California Health & Safety Code, Division 20, Chapter 6.5, a hazardous waste is a waste or combination of wastes, which because of its quantity, concentration, or physical or chemical characteristics, can cause or significantly contribute to an increase in mortality or an increase in serious irreversible illness; or can pose a substantial present or potential hazard to human health or environment when improperly treated, stored, transported, or disposed of, or otherwise managed.
What entities are hazardous waste generators?
A Hazardous Waste Generator is any entity, by site, whose act or process produces hazardous waste identified or  listed  or whose act first causes a hazardous waste to become subject to regulation.
