The La Habra Chamber of Commerce honored Fire Captain Ernie Ramirez of Fire Station 191 during an awards ceremony Wednesday, July 15, at the Westridge Country Club.

Ramirez received the George Rochester Award, which is given to those in business or local government who have used their professional skills in efforts beyond the requirements of their job toward the betterment of the community.

The City of La Habra recently celebrated 10 years of contracting with the Los Angeles County Fire Department for fire protection and emergency medical services. Ramirez has served the La Habra community since Day 1 of that agreement—he was first assigned to Fire Station 191 on July 1, 2005.

Ramirez also received certificates of recognition from state Sen. Bob Huff, 29th District; Assemblywoman Ling-Ling Chang, 55th District; U.S. Rep. Ed Royce, 39th District; and Orange County Supervisor Shawn Nelson, 4th District.
