Recently, the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) added a newly renovated Fire Resource Center helispot as another resource in its firefighting efforts, located adjacent to Olive View-UCLA Medical Center in Sylmar.

During a news conference on Thursday, September 5, Los Angeles County Fifth District Supervisor Kathryn Barger, Los Angeles City Councilmember Monica Rodriguez, LACoFD Fire Chief Daryl Osby and Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) Fire Chief Ralph Terrazas each expressed the significance the helispot has in ground-filling helicopters to combat fires during the wildfire season.

“This is a true collaboration between County and City,” says Chief Osby. “When we have fires near this area, we can rapidly have access to needed resources… as we are in the most extreme part of the fire season.”

The landing zone serves as a vital location for both fire agencies.
