LACoFD Mourns Passing of Fire Captain Michael Shepard

The Los Angeles County Fire Department is deeply saddened by the unexpected passing of 63-year-old Fire Captain Michael Shepard on Wednesday, January 23, 2019.

He was a dedicated member who started his career with the Department as a Fire Equipment Mechanic in 1997 before he became a firefighter in 2006.  He steadily promoted through the ranks during his service, spending his career at Fire Stations (FS) 37, 131 and 136 in Palmdale; FS 77 in Gorman; FS 79 in Pearblossom; FS 92 in Littlerock; FS 97 in Azusa; FS 107 in Canyon Country; FS 126 in Santa Clarita; and FS 130 in Lancaster. His most recent assignment was FS 132 in Canyon Country.

Captain Shepard leaves behind his wife, four sons, two daughters and seven grandchildren.  His wife Cathy released a short statement on behalf of their family:  “Mike was a dedicated husband, father and fire captain.  He was the source of love, comfort, protection and joy to the entire family. It is with grieving hearts that we have lost him, but we are forever grateful for each minute we spent with him.”

A memorial service for Captain Shepard will be held on Friday, February 8, 2019.
