Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) firefighters from Station 45 in Lakewood participated in the 21st annual Alive & Running 5K for Suicide Prevention in honor of Aaron Yanagisawa, the 14-year-old son of Battalion Chief Al Yanagisawa. The event took place in Westchester on Saturday, September 28, 2019.

Battalion Chief Yanagisawa participates in the Alive & Running 5K every year after his passed away in 2015. “Suicide is the leading cause of death among teenagers, firefighters, law enforcement officers, and military members. Sherry (wife) and I are committed to supporting Didi Hirsch Suicide Prevention Center and the Department Peer Support Program by participating in educational programs for teens and first responders,” said Battalion Chief Yanagisawa.

The annual Walk/Run raises funds for the Didi Hirsch Suicide Prevention Center, a national and world leader in training, research and services for people who have attempted or lost someone to suicide.
