On Monday, December 10, 2018, the Los Angeles County Fire Department hosted the annual holiday safety news conference at headquarters.
This year, Los Angeles County Fire Chief Daryl Osby was joined by Los Angeles City Fire Chief Ralph Terrazas and newly elected Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva as they each shared important tips on keeping families safe during the holiday season.
Chief Osby reminded residents to carefully check their light strands for frays and damaged wires before hanging them up, and to avoid overloading electrical sockets to prevent fires.
He also warned about the dangers of using ovens and stoves to heat up homes, and urged residents to install and regularly check their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
The news conference ended with a live demonstration showing how quickly and easily a dry tree can go up in flames.
