On Saturday, June 22, 2019, the Los Angeles County Fire Department’s (LACoFD) Lifeguard Division held a formal graduation ceremony to commemorate the success of Ocean Lifeguard Academy (OLA) 33. The ceremony was held at Dockweiler State Beach’s Youth Center in Playa Del Rey.
Forty-nine Ocean Lifeguard Candidates who successfully completed the rigorous 13-day Academy graduated as Ocean Lifeguards and are now eligible to work across Los Angeles County beaches.
OL candidate Leah Timmerman won the academy as the overall points winner.
The Academy and graduation were a success all in part by members of the OLA instructor cadre who demonstrated their dedication in training and mentoring the next generation.
