On Monday, February 11, 2019, Los Angeles County Fire Department Ocean Lifeguard Specialist Ruben Carmona happily reunited with two people he helped rescue.
In early January, OLS Carmona was working at Torrance Beach when he spotted two people near a rip current. As OLS Carmona started walking down the beach to make a routine prevent, he noticed the rip current was starting to pull the swimmers out to sea.
He quickly retrieved the rescue board to get the victims out. As OLS Carmona was gathering his equipment, a Good Samaritan asked if he could assist. So, the two headed out to make the difficult blitz rescue. They successfully brought both victims to shore safely.
Thank you to OLS Carmona and all of our dedicated first responders who are committed to serving and caring for our residents!
