The Los Angeles County Fire Department’s (LACoFD) Lifeguard Division participated in the “SoCal PaddleDown for Cancer Relay” at Cabrillo Beach on Sunday, August 11, 2019.

The 250-mile ocean relay featured lifeguards and junior lifeguards from more than 25 agencies.  Participants paddled north through their jurisdictional area to later hand-off their boards to the next agency along the path.  The relay began at Imperial Beach and will continue its journey up the California coast, ending at Refugio State Beach in Goleta.

The “SoCal PaddleDown” event was created to promote sun safety and skin cancer awareness for the John Wayne Cancer Foundation’s “Block the Blaze” program.  For additional information about the John Wayne Cancer Foundation, please visit: https://johnwayne.org/
