Fire Fighter Will Guimaraes of the Los Angeles County Fire Department ran 13.1 miles in the fourth annual Run to Remember – Los Angeles event on Sunday, April 7, 2019.
He, along with other first responders, completed the course that began at the Westfield Century City Mall, through the Fox Studios backlot and the streets of Beverly Hills, and then ending back at the the mall to cross the finish line.
FF Guimaraes participated in the uniform challenge division in memory of Fire Fighter Paramedic Randall Duarte who passed away earlier this year. He ran in full turnouts while carrying a red line flag which he later presented to FFPM Duarte’s widow, Nanette, at the end of the challenge.
In 2017, FF Guimaraes was diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia, a rare condition similar to leukemia. FF Guimaraes continues to be an inspiration to those around him as he goes above and beyond to demonstrate the Department’s core values.
The Run to Remember race gives first responders an opportunity to honor the memory and raise funds for families of those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
