On Saturday, September 28, 2019, the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) hosted its Fifth Annual Girls’ Fire Camp for participants between 14 to 19 years old at the Cecil R. Gehr Fire Combat Training Center in East Los Angeles.

The day-long camp was designed to teach teens about team work, the paramilitary structure and careers in the fire service.  The itinerary consisted of various learning stations which introduced participants to information about fitness, firefighting apparatus, personal protective equipment (PPE), hand tools and knot-tying.

LACoFD Fire Captains Sheila Kelliher and Sara Rathbun instructed 68 participants, aiming to inspire future candidates to serve Los Angeles County.
