On January 14, 2019, the Los Angeles County Fire Department’s (LACoFD) Lifeguard Division donated a check of $3,000 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The donation took place at the Lifeguard Administration Building in Manhattan Beach.
Acting Lifeguard Chief Fernando Boiteux, Rescue Boat Captain Olivier O’Connell, Ocean Lifeguard Specialist Lidia Barillas, Ocean Lifeguard Natalie Anzivino, Ocean Lifeguard Monica Dornick and Ocean Lifeguard Coral Kemp presented the donation to the Executive Director of the Foundation, Mark Pilon.
“The 2018 Lifeguard Division’s cancer awareness fundraiser donation is special because it represents a group effort. We did this in honor of those who have been affected by cancer,” said OLS Barillas.
This year’s proceeds were raised during a BBQ fundraiser and off-duty surf contest at Zuma Beach in October, and from the sales of pink Lifeguard Division hats specially designed for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
