Fire Fighter Specialist Joseph Savas passed away Sept. 23 after a short-term illness. He was 46 years old.
“The Board of Supervisors, together with President Dave Gillotte of Local 1014, and I pass along our deepest condolences and sympathies to the entire Savas family,” Fire Chief Daryl Osby said in a statement.
Savas worked at Battalion 16’s Fire Station 35-B in Cerritos.
“Joe was always a very happy person with a smile on his face,” said Battalion Chief Kevin Klar, who worked with Savas earlier in his career. “He never wanted to impose on others and (was) always willing to assist those in need.”
Savas began his Los Angeles County Fire Department career on March 26, 1998. Prior to joining the Fire Department, he was a firefighter in the U.S. Air Force for 5 years.
A flag ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at Fire Station 163, located at 6320 Pine Ave. in Bell. The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at Calvary Chapel Golden Springs, located at 2234 Golden Springs Drive in Diamond Bar.
