Deputy Fire Chief John B. Tripp has been with the Los Angeles County Fire Department for 28 years. Chief Tripp started with the Department as a student worker and has held the positions of fire protection engineer assistant, firefighter, firefighter paramedic, firefighter specialist, fire captain, battalion chief, deputy fire chief and chief deputy.

As a Chief Officer, assignments have included the Support Services Bureau, the Metro Rail Coordinator, and the Director of Training, Battalion 3 in East Los Angeles, Battalion 20 in the City of Inglewood and Battalion 7 in the City of Carson.

Chief Tripp served as the Task Force Leader for the Department’s Urban Search and Rescue Task Force, CA-TF 2, and was deployed with the Task Force to Hurricane Katrina.

Chief Tripp has been assigned to Southern California Interagency Incident Management Team 1 for the past five years; and during this assignment the team successfully commanded a number of complex incidents throughout California, Montana, Oregon and Alaska.
Chief Tripp has been a featured speaker at Firehouse Expo & World, Houston Fire Department Safety Symposium, FDIC West and the Worcester Fire Department Safety & Survival Training Seminars.

Chief Tripp holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Protection Administration from California State University, Los Angeles. He also served with the United States Air Force for 5 years as a firefighter with assignments in Arizona, Egypt, and the United Kingdom
