On Thursday, February 21, 2019, the Regional Chamber of Commerce San Gabriel Valley held its annual Salute to Heroes Prayer Breakfast at the Diamond Bar Center in the city of Diamond Bar.
Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) Fire Fighter Albert Sanchez and eight other local heroes were honored by the Chamber and elected officials for their service to communities in the San Gabriel Valley.
FF Sanchez began his career with the Department 23 years ago as a student worker and is currently assigned to Fire Station 87 in the City of Industry. He became a LACoFD firefighter in 2003, and has served the communities of La Puente, Baldwin Park, Avocado Heights and Bassett for the past 10 years.
In June 2018, FF Sanchez was beginning his work day at Fire Station 26 in La Puente when he heard frantic pounding at the door. The rest of the station crew was out, responding to a brush fire. When he answered the door, he found a mother holding her three-month-old infant who was not breathing. He immediately began chest compressions and instructed bystanders to call 9-1-1. Within minutes, a Sheriff’s Deputy arrived and a caravan of patrol cars escorted FF Sanchez and the baby to a local hospital. On their way, FF Sanchez continued compressions until the baby finally began to cough and breathe again. That particular moment was especially life-changing and memorable to him.
FF Sanchez is proud to be a LACoFD firefighter and looks forward to many more years of service. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife Yvonne and 10-month-old son Albert whom he treasures.
