On Monday, April 8, 2024, the County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) hosted a flag ceremony at Fire Station 52, in the City of Vernon, in memory of Fire Fighter Jonathan Van Oeffelen who passed away unexpectedly on March 24, 2024.

The following day, Tuesday, April 9, a memorial service was held at Cottonwood Church in the City of Los Alamitos where hundreds gathered to support the Van Oeffelen family.   The memorial service was filled with heartfelt tributes to pay honor to Fire Fighter Van Oeffelen’s life and legacy.  Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone presented the family with the flag that flew over Fire Station 52, and President Dave Gillotte presented the bible.

Within the firefighter ranks and throughout the County of Los Angeles, Fire Fighter Van Oeffelen’s two decades of dedicated service, along with his love for the communities he served, made him an invaluable member of the LACoFD firefighting family.

Fire Fighter Van Oeffelen is survived by his beloved wife Kelly, their four cherished sons – Evan, Nathan, Austin, and Ryan, his parents, John and Lynn, his siblings, and a host of family members and friends.

The indelible mark that Fire Fighter Van Oeffelen had on the many lives he touched will forever be remembered, and his absence is deeply felt by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

May God bless Fire Fighter Van Oeffelen, his family, memory, and the loved ones he leaves behind.  He will never be forgotten.
