From June 11-13, 2019, Forestry Division Assistant Chief J. Lopez, along with wildland fire specialist Jack Cohen, Ph.D., co-hosted the National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) “Assessing Structure Ignition Potential from Wildfire” training.  The three-day informational training took place in Pacific Palisades.

Team members from the Los Angeles County Fire Department’s Defensible Space Program joined property owners and personnel from various fire agencies to learn strategies on how to “harden homes” against wildfires.  Attendees learned the basics of how wildfires ignite structures and they received actionable advice on ways to best protect homes from burning.

“This science-based training delivers tools and methodologies to our residents to effectively increase their communities’ wildland fire preparedness,” said Chief Lopez.  “Educated and engaged citizens help make communities safer.”

At the end of the training, everyone received a certificate of completion from the NFPA.
