County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone joined Gordon Philanthropies and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), dignitaries, Los Bomberos de L.A. County, and members of the community on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at a ribbon cutting ceremony to unveil a new children’s educational center at Camp 13 in the City of Malibu.

The LACoFD is thankful for the partnership with CAL FIRE and CDCR in supporting justice-impacted women crew members at Camp 13 with programs that provide rehabilitation and career pathways. Hand crew members at Camp 13 provide vital support to local, state, and federal agencies in their response to emergencies such as wildfires and floods. Crew members also complete conservation projects year-round.

This educational center will ensure visiting children have a safe and welcoming space for crew members to connect with their children. The center’s open-air design offers seating and a curated collection of age-appropriate books, games, and activities.

At the unveiling ceremony, Gordon Philanthropies’ trustees and representatives, who sponsored this project, shared their pride in having Camp 13 as a recipient site. The celebration included LAPD Mariachis, backpack giveaways, toy fire trucks, and activities for mothers and children to bond over books and art.

The LACoFD is grateful to have generous philanthropic partners like Gordon Philanthropies that support our mission to protect life, property, and the environment. In just a few years, Gordon Philanthropies has delivered more than 1 million books to children and young adults.
