HHMD Student Worker Receives CA EMS Medal of Valor 900 506 Adam Carrillo

On Tuesday, May 23, 2023, Menachem “Mendy” Boganim, a student worker in the Health Hazardous Materials Division, received a prestigious Medal of Valor at the 2022 California EMS Awards Ceremony which was held at the Los Angeles County Fire Museum in Bellflower.

Mendy is currently earning his bachelor’s degree and working toward becoming a nurse practitioner.

He dedicates his spare time to volunteer as an emergency medical technician for Hatzolah of Los Angeles Emergency Medical Services.

On April 30, 2022, while responding to a call of an unresponsive patient near a synagogue in Tarzana, Mendy came under gunfire from a nearby robbery in progress.

He selflessly shielded children who were playing outside and got caught in the line of gunfire.

Mendy carried them indoors to safety and secured the doors of the synagogue, waiting for police to arrive.

Once police secured the scene, Mendy proceeded to render medical care to the unresponsive patient.

Many thanks to Mendy for his quick-thinking and courage to selflessly help others while risking his own life!
