On Tuesday, May 10, 2022, the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) joined the County’s Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (MVA) to participate in a Memorial Day awareness campaign through the nonprofit organization, Carry The Load.

Participants in this year’s campaign walked or rode bicycles in an 11,500-mile national relay along three routes (East Coast, West Coast, and Midwest), handing off an American flag every few miles.

Each participant completed their leg of the journey to “carry the load” for a deceased military service member, Veteran, or first responder, remembering them and honoring their sacrifice.

Los Angeles County Fire Chief Daryl L. Osby joined MVA Acting Director Stephanie Stone on the final leg of the West Coast route which began from Dodger Stadium and ended with a rally at Bob Hope Patriotic Hall in downtown Los Angeles.
