LACoFD Division II Prescribed Burn Two-Day Event 378 504 LACoFD Communications Section

County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) Division II firefighters and Camps Section personnel conducted a two-day prescribed burn event that commenced on Tuesday, November 14, through Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas.

This event’s success resulted in 13.5 acres burned on Day One and seven acres burned on Day Two.

The goals and objectives of the prescribed burn included: reducing the dead fuel load on hillsides; restoring habitat by removing dead invasive one-hour fuels (i.e., thistle, cheat grass, and mustard) while maintaining the health of native plants; improving the area for regrowth of natural flora and fauna; providing a landscape to apply firing operations for younger firefighters as part of the S-219, Firing Operations class; and providing a benefit to County of Los Angeles Parks to better protect the local and surrounding communities.

The Department extends its deepest appreciation to all LACoFD personnel and partners who participated in this year’s prescribed burn.
