For the 46th time, members of the Los Angeles County Fire Department’s Lifeguard Division competed for the United States Lifesaving Association’s (USLA) National Lifeguard Championships at Hermosa Beach on August 11-13, 2022.

This is also the 33rd year of the past 35 years that the team has won the overall team championship.

Since 1980, the USLA has hosted the Lifeguard Nationals where professional lifeguards, alumni, and junior USLA members compete in multiple events to show off their life-saving rescue, swim, and surf skills. This year, the Los Angeles County Lifeguard Association partnered with USLA to organize the competition.

“Los Angeles County has had a long, proud, and distinguished history in the lifeguard profession and competitive arena,” said Lifeguard Chief Fernando Boiteux. “Once again, were were victorious. It was a great team effort!”
