County of Los Angeles Fire Department Fire Fighter Paramedic (FFPM) Lauren Cardin was recently recognized by the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) for her exemplary efforts during an emergency medical services (EMS) response involving a pediatric patient.

On March 11, 2024, FFPM Cardin, assigned to LACoFD Paramedic Squad 49 in La Mirada, responded to a pediatric patient suffering respiratory failure. FFPM Cardin quickly assessed the patient for subclinical signs of a seizure.

FFPM Cardin relayed timely and critical information, which helped the receiving hospital to better prepare to treat the patient. The patient was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit and discharged a few days later after having remained stable with no additional seizures.

Job well done, FFPM Cardin and Squad 49 for going above and beyond, through your actions and emergency medical services work, in working as a team to save the life of a pediatric patient.
